Until you do it yourself, you can’t really understand what it’s like. This is a full entry certification that allows you to dive internationally. Your holidays will never be the same! Completion of this course allows you to dive to 18m (12m for juniors) with another certified diver.

PADI OPEN WATER COURSE INFORMATION

You’ve probably seen photos, television, and films of diving, but until you do it yourself, you can’t really understand what it’s like. Nothing on earth matches the sensations you experience – the thrill of breathing underwater, the freedom of “weightlessness”, and unique sights and sounds.

The PADI Open Water course opens these doors for you and much more. This is a full entry certification that allows you to dive internationally. Your holidays will never be the same! The PADI Open Water Diver certification qualifies you to:

1. Dive independently while applying the knowledge and skills you learn in the course, within the limits of your training and experience.

2. Purchase air fills, scuba equipment and other diving-related services.

3. Plan, conduct and log open water dives up to 18m when equipped properly and accompanied by a buddy in conditions with which you have training and or experience. 4. Continue your diver training with a specialty dive in the PADI Advanced Open Water program, and or in PADI Specialty courses.

Course Structure

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three segments. Each plays an important role in learning to dive by meeting the performance objectives you need to qualify as a diver. The Knowledge Development section establishes the principles and basic information all divers need to have to dive safely. It is divided into five chapters. Each of the chapters starts with independent study of the PADI Open water manual and DVD. Small Quizzes and a final knowledge review help reaffirm what you learn in each chapter. Your instructor will go through the knowledge reviews with you, completing any gaps in your knowledge. A final quiz determines what you have mastered for each chapter. There are two final multiple choice exams (one for theory, and one for the dive table), to assess that you have all knowledge necessary to dive safely in the future.

Why not get a head start on your independent study before you arrive? This could help reduce the length of your course, giving you more chance to dive!

You can purchase a PADI Open water Manual at your local PADI Dive Centre or order through Coral Divers.

Have Internet access? Why not try the PADI e-learning option and complete the five knowledge reviews online? When you arrive you only need to complete the final exam. Then you can go straight to the pool!

Confined Water Dives is where the fun really begins. You will complete five confined water pool sessions, during which you learn and practice dive procedures and skills under the direct supervision of your instructor. You will also need to complete a 10 minute float and 200 metre swim. Our pool is also heated during the winter months to ensure that you have the most comfortable experience possible.

The Open Water Dives complete your training as an entry–level diver by applying and further developing your knowledge and dive skills in a dive environment you can expect after you become a certified diver.

Your 4 Open Water Dives will be conducted on 2 mile reef (maximum depth 18m) under the direct supervision of your instructor. After completing skills, you can finish the dive by experiencing the 1,200 species of tropical fish and a unique array of hard and soft corals found in Sodwana bay.

Course Pre-requisites

To qualify for acceptance into the PADI Open Water Diver Program, you must meet the following requirements:

1. Be 10 years of age or older. Students under the age of 15 years may obtain the PADI Junior Open Water certification (restrictions apply). Anyone aged under 18 years will require a parent/guardian to complete and sign some paperwork.

2. Complete the PADI Medical Statement and if you answer “yes” to any of the questions, you must acquire a clearance for diving signed by a physician attesting to fitness to dive. The medical clearance must be current within the previous 12 months. The physician signing the form cannot be the individual. Click here for a copy of the medical statement.
